Everybody has a beach body.

P6201516

Truth: I am at my heaviest weight right now. I’ve even signed up for a gym membership because I’ve started to worry about my health. I need to start being more active because in all honesty, I am not a healthy person. Eight hours a day in the same seat at work has turned me into a very inactive person.

But it’s never too late to improve your life :)

However, this does not mean I will hate my body in anyway. No matter how many people talk to me about how concerned they are, no matter how many magazine head lines shout “ Get that beach body today!” or “Lose 10 kgs now!”, no matter how many plus size actresses magically shrink to half their size and claim a new found happiness, I will not compare my body to anyone else’s. I will not buy into the bullshit that everyone should look a particular way to be allowed a fun day at the beach or a club or anything in life. After many years of struggles, I am finally at a stage where I am comfortable with my body and nothing is going to steal that away from me. I’ve worked too hard for it.

And I’m super excited at the thought of working out (ok no, I hate treadmills!), swimming, trying out zumba, belly dancing and just feeling better about taking care of myself. That being said, I enjoyed a lovely day at the beach in my new BHS swimsuit. I was not the only fat girl and in a place like Dubai, you find women of various nationalities in different beach wear. It is awesome. It just goes to prove that everyone is entitled to a day at the beach no matter what she looks like or what she’s wearing. There are no rules, it’s just a beach and you’re supposed to be relaxing and focusing on your fun. Trust me, most people are too concerned about enjoying their time to care about what you’re wearing.

Have a great day!

  1.  i feel you on this, I used to be active in the gym all the time, but then i started working a job that just tired me out big time. I'm in the process of doing the same thing. I love myself but I know I need to lose some lb's for healthy purposes, this is a lovely post!

most people are too concerned about enjoying their time to care about what you’re wearing." thats the crux... it stands true even elsewhere

  4. What a great post, I'm glad you had a good time at the beach.  I'm headed to Thailand after the new year and, in all honesty, I'm not stressing out over my bathing suit for once.  Like you, I've reached the point where I'm comfortable, and I think that's in part to posts like this :)  It's encouraging.

  6. Being curvy does not mean being unhealthy, whatever helps you to keep healthy then go for it. By the way I have the same costume in pink, and in green, I haven’t had an opportunity to use them yet, but the summer is not over.

  8. Yay! You look fabulous and like you're having a great time! I totally want to do a swimsuit post this summer, too. Hopefully I'll work up the courage! I admire you for doing this and I think you are beautiful and absolutely right. Good for you on starting to exercise, I'm about to start again myself. And once you do, you'll get addicted and start feeling the change in energy. Even your skin improves (I totally need that). Good luck to us! We can do it! xoxo Rikke

  13. You look amazing, Weesha! This is the first summer that I've allowed myself to go swimming without cover-up shorts or top, and it feels amazing to do so! I hope you enjoy trying new exercises. Belly dancing sounds ridiculously fun, although my hips hurt just thinking about it ;). I've tried Zumba, and it was fun!

  17. Definitely, curvy by no means is unhealthy but I know myself and health is definitely an area I need to work on, my body deserves it :) And you gotta make the best of this beach weather before it's over!

  18. You know what, the last time I did a bikini post, it was the first time I wore any kind of swim suit since I was maybe 8 years old? And I was so nervous but so sick of having this insecurity weigh me down so I just did it! And  I'm just comfortable with it now. I think you realize it's not such a big deal and you don't worry about it any more :) So go ahead and try it! I'm definitely excited to see results at the gym :)

  19. Hi LaCara! I've only tried bellydancing with some youtube video guide lol, you need to teach me a few moves so I'm not a complete idiot at my first class!

  20. That is awesome! I wish more women just let go and tried it, they would see that it's really not that tough and it's really all in our head. Thank you :)

  25. Weesha, I love your comments...you always make me feel good about myself.  I love your pink swimsuit.  Why are larger sizes always found in navy and black?  You are so right that there are women of all sizes at the beach!  Who cares?  Have fun!

  26. I do not often comment but I have to say you really look gorgeous !
I'm fond of sea, but it's a nightmare for me to wear a swimsuit in public. I feel so ashame for my children when I see people laughing at me...A few month ago a young man with a friend started to laugh at me and to insult me in the middle of the street. I was so shocked, and so sad ...

  35. thank you! I think I was just happy to be on a beach. You feel like you're on holiday even if you're in the same old city :)

  36. You know, your children have no need to be ashamed of you. I had a chubby mom and I've never been ashamed of her, I always thought she was super woman. And you're their mom, you can teach them so much about size diversity and that there is no such thing as ugly! As for that man, you should never let anyone treat you that way. I know it's not the easiest thing to do but eventually I'm sure you'll get the courage to fight back. I used to be too shy to reply when people picked on me for my weight but now I reply with their weakness just so they know how much it hurts. I'm sorry you have to deal with such horrible people :( But don't let them bring you down, fight back!

  37. Thank you, and you're right! they're always in black or navy. I would literally yell "yay" every time I saw another fat girl on the beach until I got tired because there were so many of different sizes. And really, no one cared about us, everyone was too busy enjoying their day at the beach :)

  44. This is a fantastic post. I think in terms of Fat Acceptance there's a real struggle people experience when trying to reconcile loving their bodies and experiencing the desire-- or need-- to change. I think you can change your body out of a place of love instead of hate, which is what you want to do. For me, I've struggled as someone who tries to love my body unconditionally with the feeling that I would still like to go back to a size when I was much more in shape. My instinct sometimes is to interpret that as telling myself I have failed in some way, but I know that's not true. The most important kind of love we can show ourselves is taking care of the ourselves. We all need to work on adopting healthy habits for health instead of aesthetics; if you get thinner, fine, and if you don't, that's fine, too.

End rant. You look gorgeous, by the way!

  50. we have a show in the US called "i used to be fat" every time i watch it I NEED to go to the gym. haha and a new season is starting up so I can't wait to be motivated.  It is weird because you would think just sitting down all day you would have too much energy to contain but it is draining.
